Direct Primary Care (DPC) is an innovative alternative payment model improving access to high functioning healthcare with a simple, flat, affordable membership fee. No fee-for-service payments. No third party billing. The defining element of DPC is an enduring and trusting relationship between a patient and his or her primary care provider. Patients have extraordinary access to a physician of their choice, often for as little as $70 per month, and physicians are accountable first and foremost their patients. DPC is embraced by health policymakers on the left and right and creates happy patients and happy doctors all over the country!

Better Health Outcomes
Patients achieve superior health outcomes with Direct Primary Care's innovative service delivery. DPCs provide better access to physicians, empower an authentic therapeutic relationship, and comprehensive patient care.

Lower Costs
Affordable, transparent costs based on a periodic overall flat rate (i.e. membership or subscription). Patients pay for their care directly to the physician. No third parties or Fee for Service billing ("FFS") to inflate costs. Most DPC memberships/subscriptions cost less than the average cell phone bill.

Enhanced Patient Experience
Patients receive unrestrictive access to their healthcare provider, report little to no wait time, and longer appointments (in person, virtually, or phone). In turn, creating a real therapeutic relationship between patient and provider.

next Fly In September 2019!
Members of the DPC Coalition, Steering Committee, and AAFP Board joined over 1,100 Osteopathic physicians, students, and residents for two chilly March days on Capitol Hill lobbying for the passage of the Primary Care Enhancement Act. DPC Coalition Members met with over 60 Senators, Representatives, and congressional staff giving voice to the need for affordable primary care for all Americans. Senator Bill Cassidy, MD (R-LA) and Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) spoke to our physicians and other attendees on the Hill about the urgent need for these important clarifications to the tax code to improve primary care access around the nation. Employer groups such as Boeing, Chrysler, the U.S. Chamber and the National Business Group on Health joined the conversation on the need for DPC as a part of a comprehensive approach to improve health benefits and help all Americans get better care in a personal relationship with the physician of their choice. We appreciate everyone's time and support in promoting DPC and look forward to planning our next Fly In being held in September 2019.

Texas Employers for Affordable Medications (TEAM) is a statewide coalition of employers and health care providers dedicated to ensuring patients have access to affordable medications from the venue of their choice. Texas is one of the most restrictive states in the country regarding physician dispensing of prescription drugs where physicians are only able to dispense in rural areas or if there is an immediate need. TEAM was formed by Texas Academy for Family Physicians in direct response to high drug costs, the barriers imposed by inefficient and costly supply chains for pharmaceuticals, and the increasing problem of patients not adhering to their medication regimens. The coalition advocates for innovative models of care like work site wellness clinics and direct primary care practices that give people convenient access to affordable medications they need to stay healthy and manage illnesses and chronic conditions. “We’re really excited to be starting TEAM and gain valuable members so we can transform Texas’ current prescribing environment and impact patient lives for the better,” said Tom Banning, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice President. Members will facilitate public policy development and advocacy efforts, strengthen ties and collaborative efforts with employers, health care providers, and other organizations, and provide credible data and information to elected officials and the public.
